    Hi
Prob best to put down your basic plan along with feats you think you should take, peeps can then offer more advice on what missed/to change and we will get an better idea of what u r after.

l know nothing about the toon, but would like a good dps type ranger not a trap monkey.

Where does it say that a ranger with trap skills is not a good dps ranger?

Quick note, a ranger gets 6 skill points base + int mod per heroic level, which means that they can easily get useful rogue skills without loosing out anything beyond taking 1 rogue level. Being able to take int for to hit and dmg through the harper tree has made this even more easier.

When it comes to an archer, it all boils down to if you want to go pure ranger or to multi-class. Both ways have its pros and cons, but if only dps matters, then a monkcher (12mnk/6rgr/2pal) is the most common type. If going for ranger 20, then you need to decide if you want to go for elf for using dex for dmg (main stats are then dex and con), or if wanting to go other race and use either str for dmg (will then want high str, dex and con), or if going for int (then int and con will be main stats).

Other things that make elves good in this scenario is that you can take the dragonmark feat to get access to displacement (which lasts way longer than any clicky you craft).

Halfling is also a good choice for an archer, as your height will then be optimal when it comes to improved precise shot. Other races are too tall to easily hit everything between them and the end target, while a halfling will hit everything.

Enhancement tree wise, you will most likely end up as an arcane archer. There you want to put enough points in the AA tree so you can take slaying arrow (tier5 ability) and perhaps capstone (depends on other choices). The other options in the AA tree is up to preference.

You will also spend points in deepwood stalker so you can take sniper shot (3rd core ability), which is a great dps ability in addition to slaying arrow. Deepwood stalker is also the tree with positive spell power (which you want high so you can use cure serious wounds for healing, in addition to rejuv cocoon).
